Too many activities..

Pardon my recent hiatus but summer is here and the activities are in full swing.  Due to most of our water being non-fishable at the moment, I headed up north to ski Mt. Shasta, did a bit of sailing, home-brewing, and scouting new waters in the greater Truckee/Tahoe area.  Several new places were found and I suspect the flows should be dropping within the next week or so.  Clarity is starting to come back and the fish are hungry… Max came up from the Bay Area and had some success catching a few bows!  I am off to fish the McCloud River up north for a few days, then head down to catch the hex hatch on the Fall River (just outside the town of Burney).  Oh and the dry fly’s are starting to show up in numbers, so get those cripples ready!

Still raging...

The Truckee River is still a cloudy brown color and the flows have been rising just slightly each day as the temperatures rise. Looks like rafting season out of Tahoe City is going to be put on hold for awhile, maybe late July? With this in mind, seek large slicks and get that streamer down deep with a 400 grain sink tip. Fish haven't been leader shy at all, due to the water color. Landed a few nice bows today on a green sculpin pattern.

Double Rainbow

Summer is finally here.. forecast wise that is. Looks like we got sun for a week or so. Flows are still rocking on the Truckee. With these higher temperatures rolling in, the reserviors will be filling up fast. The reserviors will be letting out more water than normal to adjust the water level accordingly. Anything below Boca outlet is going to be fast and furious. Good spots to fish to avoid the higher flows would be anything above Glenshire bridge and anything off highway 89 towards Tahoe City. The Little Truckee has been bumped back up into the 550 range. Fish are still holding in the typical "fishy" spots.

Below are a few pictures from the past few days out.

Landed my first double rainbow!

It's about time..

that the flows subside that is..For the past several months we have had some raging rivers around the Truckee area, which makes it particularly hard to fish.  Now, the flows are doable. With the lower flows will come the sustained hatches.  I've been seeing more BWO's (size 18's) coming off around 1 PM - 3 PM, as well as the always present, midges!  This big girl below took a BH Crystal PT BWO in a size 20.  Hanzi followed up with several nice fish, utilizing a wet fly technique, no indicator - Wyoming Guide Style.  The fishing is starting to heat up like Dirk Nowitski draining those shots on LeBron...Come out and wet a line with me!
